Faculty Introduction

My name is Rosa Fuste and I have been teaching SLS1001 Strategies for Success since 2009.  I take pride in my class and my students.  I am also the Broward College Center Manager for the Pines Center located at 16957 Sheridan Street, Pembroke Pines, FL. 33331


Course Description

This course is tailored for First Time in College students and provides opportunities to learn about Broward  College and higher education, acquire and practice learning strategies, explore personal learning styles, identify career options, and develop life long skills for responsible citizenship.

Methods of Instruction

This is a 3-credit hour blended course. Normally, a 3-credit hour on-campus course would meet two times each week (during a 16 week term) for a total of 3 hours per week or 48 hours per term. In this class, we will meet once a week on-campus, for at least 1.5 hours, and you will engage in structured out-of-class or online activities for the remainder of the class time. These online activities will include graded discussions, graded assignments, a group project, and graded online quizzes.

Learning Outcomes

  1.  Students shall be able to understand and apply key factors in self-motivation and self-management.
  2.   The student shall:  be able to demonstrate familiarity with college organization, rules, regulations, support services and co-curricular programs.
  3. The student shall:  be able to apply various learning strategies and critical thinking strategies to their college course work. 
  4. The student shall:  be able to evaluate and develop their individual life management skills and values.       
  5. The student shall:  be able to demonstrate an understanding of the concept of Life / Career Planning.
  6. The student shall:  be able to demonstrate an understanding of the importance of developing and educational plan.
  7. The student shall:  be able to identify access, navigate and utilize necessary computer and web functions to help them achieve a successful academic and professional experience.

How to Access this Course once you are Enrolled in this Course

You will have access to this course the first day the class is scheduled to meet.  You need to log into your BConline course through Broward Colleges home page, click on Desire to Learn link and enter your log in and password.
  • Your BConline User Name is the same as your BC email ID.
  • Your BConline password is the same as your BC email PIN code.
  • If you need login information, obtain BC email user ID and PIN code before attempting to login to BConline.
  • The BC email address site, click on "ID Lookup", then enter your Student# (or INTL Student ID#) and PIN code (2 digit birth month and 4 digit year). Write down your email ID (not the @mail.broward.edu part), which is your BConline User Name.
